Hunting tip - Corn for your deer

Bow season open here in Oklahoma on Friday and we are all ready! We have been checking our stands and making any changes that need to be made for the last month. One other thing we have been doing is setting out salt licks, putting apples out in some places and corn out in others. In years past we have bought our corn from the local co-op and stored them in 55 gallon drums. This year we are trying to be creative and found one way to save money on putting corn out for the deer. We have places that we hunt that are corn fields. As we are walking across we always see whole ears of corn that were missed when the field was cut. After talking to the farmers who have the fields and they said they didn't mind us picking it up. So we now take a bucket and pick up the whole ears of dried corn that are laying around. Then when we are ready we dump them out around where our feeders are and leave them for the deer to feast on.
I would be sure to ask the farmer who has the land if they mind if you walk the cut corn field and pick up the left over dried corn. We store ours in buckets or bags and then dump them out when ever we need them.
This is a good way to save money but still give the deer the extra nutrition that you are wanting them to have. It is a win-win situation for all! Hope this helps you out?

Meet My New Friend, Katydid

Meet my friend, Katydid. At 12:30 this morning he woke me up. That is the most gosh darn awful sound that you can ever hear inside the house. We were in a dead sleep and here him rubbing his wings together. In our waking up from a dead sleep stupor we were trying to figure out what the noise was... We have 10 foot high ceilings in our house. We saw this bright green object on the wall, almost to the ceiling. So I said the smartest thing that I could think of in my stupor "Hit him with a towel". I know, I am smart when I am awakened out of a dead sleep. Here is the deal, Mister did it. Then our new friend flew around a little bit, landed on me, I tried to grab him and missed. He ended up on the floor, where Mister was hitting him with the towel again. Then he was gone. So we went back to bed and a couple hours later our friend decided that he wanted to talk again. Mister got up and tried to hit him with the towel again. Then he was gone, again. So we went back to bed and slept peacefully until the alarm went off. I am hoping that our friend will stay outside and not wake us up tonight. He sounds beautiful outside, just not in my house wanting to talk in the early hours of the morning!

Outside my window..Cloudy and has been rainy. I would mind some more light rain, just no torrential downpours.
The time is..10:40 am
Today I feel..good. Making ribbons tonight for 9-11 and probably canning some more.
I am thinking.. bubble yum used to be good. Now it just loses it's flavor too fast. Maybe part of that is I am older :)
At the moment, I am thankful.. that the college I go to is understanding of an hour & half drive.
I am going..to see Rodney Carrington this weekend.
I am wearing..pink and white top, dark khakis, brown shoes and a black fleece jacket. It is chilly!
I wish..I could get Mister everything that he is wanting.
I am reading..text books and Life of Pi. I just haven't had time!!!!
I am working on..cleaning my dirty house!
I am hoping..I can relax a bit this weekend
I am hearing..the radio. Taylor Swift's "Should've Said No"

The time is.. 12:31 pm
Today I feel.. tired but looking forward to movie night with the hubby.
I am thinking.. that a dollar movie, some cheese dip for dinner and relaxation sounds good. Cheese dip in our house is a pound of sausage (we prefer hot from Braums), a block of Velveeta and a can of Rotel. So yummy and easy to warm back up.
At the moment, I am thankful.. I am not having to work tonight

I am hoping.. that all goes well today with Karey. She is having Evan!!!!
I am hearing.. Jeff Bates on my iPod. You have GOT to check him out!!!!
Around the house.. I see jars of canned stuff.
I bet you didn't know.. I have been married twice to the same man....
One of my favorite.. canned items that I have done this year would have to be blackberry jelly or pickles.
