2009 snow and ice...

Momma told me their would be days.....

this is what I felt like yesterday. I worked the day, got some bad health news, went to school and got home after midnight (stressed about driving on the icy roads), and then couldn't fall asleep until about 2. I was up at 5 Friday morning and was worn out the whole day, The fun thing was we got free tickets to see Joey and Rory and had a blast....

KURTIS THE STOCK BOY AND BRENDA THE CHECKOUT GIRL

In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voice came over the loud speaker asking for a carry out at register 4. Kurtis was almost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answer the call. As he approached the check-out stand a distant smile caught his eye, the new check-out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he was only 22) and he fell in love.

Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch clock to find out her name. She came into the break room, smiled softly at him, took her card and punched out, then left. He looked at her card, BRENDA. He walked out only to see her start walking up the road. Next day, he waited outside as she left the supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and she accepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again, outside of work. She simply said it wasn't possible. He pressed and she explained she had two children and she couldn't afford a baby-sitter, so he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. Reluctantly she accepted his offer for a date for the following
Saturday.

That Saturday night he arrived at her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go with him. The baby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, "Well, let's take the kids with us." She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again not taking no for an answer, he pressed. Finally Brenda, brought him inside to meet her children. She had an older daughter who was just as cute as a bug, Kurtis thought, then Brenda brought out her son, in a wheelchair. He was born a paraplegic with Down Syndrome. Kurtis asked Brenda, "I still don't understand why the kids can't come with us?" Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a woman with two kids, especially if one had disabilities - just like her first husband and father of her children had done. Kurtis was not ordinary - - - he had a different mindset.

That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids, went to dinner and the movies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When he needed to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair, took him and brought him back. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brenda knew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life with. A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children. Since then they have added two more kids.

So what happened to Kurtis the stock boy and Brenda the check-out girl? Well, Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Warner now live in Arizona. If you tune in on 1 February, you can watch him quarterback the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl against the Pittsburg Steelers! Is this a surprise ending or could you have guessed that he was not an ordinary person? Some athletes are also great people.

It should be noted that he also quarterbacked the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. He has also been the NLF's Most Valuable Player twice and the Super Bowl's MVP.

On Sunday, 1 Feb I'll be rooting for Kurt!!

Side note.... I have read his book and knew this story but being reminded of it brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of what a wonderful man he truely is. I loved to watch him when he played for the Rams and have followed him to Arizona. And although I am a Dallas Cowboys fan I still love to watch Kurt Warner!!!

oklahoma snow storm

So Oklahoma has been under a "winter weather watch". I knew that tonight was going to get bad, I just didn't think it would happen so quick. It started misting around 1:30 and by 3:30 it was icy, icy, icy. The bank closed at 4 so we got to go home an hour early. We are now cooking hamburgers and french fries (I have been craving them for a week) and are going to play Wii. There is ice already and they are calling for 1/2 inch of freezing rain and 3 inches of sleet. Everyone has been saying that we have had a nice winter but when we cut a persimmon seed in half it was a spoon. Which means lots of snow!!!! So now Old Man Winter is just now realizing and trying to catch up on his "snow"!!! So we are going to huddle in for a night of food and fun!!!!

The other nice thing is that I was supposed to have my first Monday night class tonight and I was stressed about driving. My father in law is in law enforcement and normally tells me that it is fine to drive but tonight he was telling my husband that their was no way that I could drive on the turnpike. By 3 today there had already been multiple wrecks on bridges and side roads. I was keeping in touch with my instructor and she told me that if it was too icy not to come. As I was typing my response back she sent and email that NSU canceled classes!!! I don't have to use one of my absences tonight!!! Yay!!!!!

Cold, school and Lola!!!

Well first of both of us have been sick with the colk-like crud that is going around. He got in first and has it last. I seemed to kick it quicker than he did. I am feeling for anyone who is having to go through this right now. But I guess better now than to have to deal with it in the middle of summer!!!

Speaking of dealing with, it is freaking cold in Oklahoma!!!! Single digits for the next couple of nights and I am not liking the wind chill that is coming with it and the "wind is blowing down the plain".... I can somewhat deal with cold but not with cold and the wind! I am having to bundle up big time.

I am all ready and bundled up, car is packed, bag is packed, snacks packed (okay okay, Monster Energy drinks packed) and I am ready for the new semester of SCHOOL!!!!! I am ready to get back in the routine but not for the extremely late nights. But I keep seeing my goal in the future and can't wait to continue this adventure! This is my 5th semester at NSU and I absoutely love it. If you are looking at a college to get a degree at this is the place that I would highly recommend NSU.

Well this weekend (Thurs to Sun) I get to babysit Lola!! I am so excited for the girls and they love to see her and they play until all three are worn out! Roxy goes to the vet on Monday for shots and then Lola goes the next week to get "fixed".

I am finishing "Breaking Dawn" of the Twilight series. I love the books but I don't believe that if I have a girl that she will read this series at a young teenager.... The content is too mature for the audience that she is meaning it for. I have enjoyed the series though but my husband is wondering what I will do after I finish these last 30 pages. He is calling me a "fang banger" thanks to my wonderful friend Marcy, from whom he picked the phrase up from! I am trying to stay up with the books that my kids might be reading or might read when I am teaching and I am still trying to also read the books that I like. I read "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and you can read her ongoing blog here. But last Monday I got the last three books of the Twilight series, started them on Tuesday and will finish the last today. I am trying to make a choice to read more during the semester as well but it will be hard....

this last month....

So we have been running around like crazy getting stuff done and getting the holidays over with. Christmas was fun but busy. We ran around to Matt's family as well as having a party at our house. We loved spending the time with family and while we had fun it was bittersweet. This was the first Christmas without his Uncle Steve. Even though I have suffer many losses it doesn't get easier to deal with each new loss.
Next was New Years and we had people over for that. Drunken people on the Wii is a blast, I just wish that we had a video camera so I could have taped some of it!!! We had a good time though and pushed everyone out at a little after 12. Matt's step-mom and I hit Joplin and found some wonderful deals and then rested since I had to go back to work. I will be ready to get back to a "normal" work routine now!!!
School starts in a week and a half and while I am ready I am going to miss my free time to stitch and read. I am working on a fairly large project for a friends birthday and have been reading like crazy. I have finished three books last week alone. I have been reading "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" by Anonymous, "Brother Odd" by Dean Koontz, "Twilight" and have started on "Odd Hours" while waiting for the other twilight books to get here. Hopefully today!!!
Well, hope all is good and I want to know what you are reading too!!!
