Suprise birthday party for me!

I turned 29 this year and was expecting to go and eat Mexican with Mister's dad and his wife. We get to pick where to go on our birthdays so I was pumped to go to a hole in the wall Mexican buffet. You heard me right, a Mexican buffet!!! It is one of our favorite places to eat and Friday nights they have these huge shrimp on the buffet and I love me some shrimp! I was absolutely psyched for Mexican and Mister and I were to be at their house at 7 pm. I didn't want to be late and dressed casual, you have to have room for all the food. We go down and look at the river since it is raining and then head over there. I walked in the door and there were people everywhere. Marcy, Monty, Darrin, Darrin's girlfriend, Vince, Alysia, Brandy, Chris, AJ, Derek, Tiffany, Bob, Christi, Mema, Katie, Karen, Farris, Kathy, Phil, Kim, Father in law & his wife (of course) L, B, and of course my wonderful hubby. They planned this, changed the night I got my nails done, and hid all the cars so I never knew what was happening. I cry when I get embarrassed so that explains the first pictures.

This was my cake. I loved it!!! It fit me perfect!

redneck fun

What do you get when you combine a can of paint, an Aim & Flame lighter, a mailbox and a bunch of ants? A whole heapin' bunch of redneck fun!

My favorite Redneck Diva was bringing me a starter to the Amish 30 day friendship bread and I had told her to put it in the mailbox if I wasn't home. So I decided to go out and check the mailbox before she came over.

Now in the country our mailboxes aren't attached to our house, they are out by the road like this.

And this is all that I could see on the outside and the inside of the box. It was absolutely crawling with the little buggers!

So we did what any redneck couple would do and grabbed the lighter and a can of paint. This makes a torch of sorts and when you spray it at the ants it "torches" them. So after the tournament we came home and eradicated the mailbox of the ants. I am sure that the mailman will appreciate it and I was still able to be back in time to see my favorite Redneck Diva and get my starter for the 30-day Amish Friendship Cake!!!

letting go of control

As I was bouncing on the boat seat as we were going across the water during the tournament this weekend, I began to think. I am a person who likes her t's crossed and her i's dotted. I don't like change and I like to plan. At Christmas where we go for family gatherings is orderly and sterile. If you ask me on December 6 to come to your house on the 24th at 7 I put down the information and a 1 is put by your even and circled. You were the first to ask. It continues as people keep asking. If there are changes, it is based on who asked and when. Kinda crazy I know, but it is my way of having some semblance of control. What I realized as I was bouncing on the seat of the boat is I have no control.

Boats aren't equipped with seat belt and I always felt out of sorts since all I have to hold onto as the passenger is a shiny bar in front of me. That shiny bar doesn't always help you out when poles are riding up. But when we hit the ways perfectly everything is okay and we are flying across the water. But then the waves from the larger boats start coming towards you and you have no control. You may just get splashed by some water or you may ride that wave up and the boat comes out of the water. You hear the engine revving up and then you hear (and feel!) the "SMACK!!!" as you come down, hitting the water.

I realized that life is the same way. We can be cruising along, not a care in the world and we ride the wave of life up and then all of a sudden there is nothing below us and we are stuck in mid-air. As we are stuck we are wondering what is getting ready to happen. But we have not control over what is getting ready to happen.

But it will be okay, we will all get through it. Some of these waves are bigger than others but there is the falling to look forward to because after the fall comes the calm and we can recoup and get ready for the next wave that will undoubtedly come. By letting go of the control that we so badly want, we can enjoy the ride and not expect what will come next.

Parent as bullies

I have had the wonderful opportunity to spend time around a large variety of people lately. I saw something that made me seethe underneath the surface. I have seen these actions in the past but cannot take it much more.

I am a person who was abused by my stepmother. There was the physical side but the more more harmful side was the mental abuse. You begin to believe what you are being told. Although I was a straight "A" student, I was told that I was stupid. I was told that my mother wasn't a good person and everyone just said that to make me feel better. I was told that her children were more important and I would be gone if she had her way. At 12 I made that happen for her and my father and went to go and live with other family members. Still to this day my father will not admit that there was anything wrong or that anything truly happened. That is probably part of the reason that we don't have a close relationship. I wonder about people who can stick their heads in the sand and be alright with it.

Still today those scars run deep. I have issues thinking I am allowed to strive for something for myself. I am a people-pleaser and have let people walk all over me in the past. I am now learning how to get past this and as I am sure you all have read, will be graduating with a degree in May 2011. I have done this on my own and for myself. It has taken sacrifice on the part of others but I have learned that I need to come first.

As a parent you are there to be your child's protector, disciplinarian and strength, but you aren't there to humiliate your child. Things that you say to your child will not be taken the same as if you said it to your friends. As a parent you are there to lead your child or push them past the anxieties in the world, not cause them to be greater.

I was around a large group of people and one particular person was bullying their child. This wasn't the first time that I had witnessed this but I am hoping that it will be the last. This child has been put down, humiliated and absolutely has not had a chance. This child has bounced back and forth between Mom and Dad and I know that not only the child has problems but the parents do also. This child has the same traits as the parents, the same traits that they are ragging on it for. This child is starting to believe everything that they are being told. And I am frustrated by the ignorance I am seeing from both parents. But underneath all of this I can see a small glimmer of hope. This child has learned what respect is and has shown it on several occasions, even while getting humiliated by the Dad. And that gives me strength.

The next time that something is said tearing this child down I will be the one to take the blows. Although I have worried about what might be said and if there will be hard feelings, I will stand up and be this child's shield. I remember those who would stand up for be and just stand beside me and still to this day I am so thankful for them. Without them I could be a statistic. But because they cared enough to stand up for me I am about to graduate. And one day I will be a mother who will not treat my children the way that I was treated. But for now I will stand up and be an advocate for this child.

Moments in life...

My father-in-law always sends me some of the best forwards and this one was very true.

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing stinks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How in the world are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I know for sure I did not make any changes to.
14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.
15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Hello?), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?
16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste!
17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
18. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
19. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.
20. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
21. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.
22. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
23. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
24. Shirts get dirty. Underwear get dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
25. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
26. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is. 27. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my behind everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

Mothers Day

Breast cancer has been a part of my life since I was a year old. Actually it was a part before I was born but we will start there. My mother found a lump when I was a year old and everything, for me at least, started there. My mother had a single mastectomy, among numerous other surgeries at the same time, and chemo. She was "cancer free" for a year before her hip started hurting. This whole time my mom continued as a nurse and was raising a small child. After doing some tests they found that it had metastasized into her bones. She refused the chemo at that time but once it was moving into other organ she did the chemo again. I have a friend of my mother's who told me the other day that *I* was the reason that she fought so hard. After 4 1/2 years my mother lost her battle but not without putting up a huge fight and impacting me in the process.
My grandmother (mothers mom) was diagnosed about4 years later and fought for two years. She lost her battle a year after my grandfather died of a massive heart attack.
My Aunt Teanne (mothers sister) was diagnosed and fought. She wanted to be able to last for me get married and she succeeded. She fought for a couple of years as well and passed a month after Matt and I got married. Although she didn't get to come to the wedding, her sons were there and I sent back many thoughts and prayers to her. She didn't tell us how bad she was and then I got a phone call all of a sudden that she was gone.
I have a hard time every May when it is mothers day. If I go to church I see everyone who has their mother around. If we go out to eat, their are families who are with their mothers and I don't have one. I am so happy for everyone who has their mothers still around. So don't take this post as a downer so something bad. Most people around me realize to not ask me to do anything that would have me around much family. We go to The Mister's grandmother's house and to his dad's house to relax and probably have some watermelon. Something to relax.
I am not saying anything bad to or about anyone. Hoping that I can help some people to gain knowledge. Just know that their are those of us whom don't have their mothers (or fathers) around. Just know that their are bad days that we will have and they may be the most inopportune times. My mother died in February so there are bad times during that month. Her birthday is in August, so that is hard for me too. Just know that they are only human and you might go and give them an extra hug and a little more love during the times that they may feel down and vulnerable.

Papa

Last night we lost a very integral part of the Mister's family. His grandfather died after suffering from Alzheimer's for three years. The family would appreciate any prayers that can be sent up for the emotional hurt in this time of need. I feel for anyone who is suffering from this horrible disease and the family that will have to deal with the hurt.

Phones at what age?!?!?!?

While I was tanning tonight I was thinking about how I would be lost without my cell phone. Matt and I both have one and use them constantly. But, these are our only phones. We haven had a land line in over 8 years. I don't even think that I could tell you the numbers for the two landlines that I had.
After tanning I was reading through the tweets that I had missed and one was talking about sharing their phone with their children. She stated that her now teenager had shared her phone when she was younger and now her second and third child were doing the same. She also stated that her children were the only ones who didn't have phones in their classes.
Am I just crazy in thinking that this is wrong?????
I got my first cell phone when I was 19 and I paid for all of it. I haven't had anyone else around to take care of me so I do it on my own. I could not imagine, ten years later, allowing a child to have a cell phone with not controls. Mister and I have talked about when we have kids that there will be regulations put on the phones. They will not be in rooms at night, they will have a set number of minutes (possibly prepaid), and any other ways that we can think to be mean parents and embarrass our kids :) .
Am I the only one though who sees that this is a problem???? Kids today aren't outside enough and aren't physical enough. I like the Wii as much as anyone but we also take the time to go and shoot our bows, walk down a creek fishing, fish in the pond or the lake. We find things to do. I see so many kids who don't know what the outdoors are. I hope that we can change this soon, since this is the only way that we can pass down the knowledge that we have of the wonderful resources that we have.
Do you know kids who have cell phones? How old are they and there limitations??? I would love to have a starting point and maybe get some more discussion out of this!

Questions that don't really have answers...

I thought that I might make your day and get ya'll to thinking. The are some questions that don't have a real answer to them. But your mind will get to workin'!

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change?
They're going to see you naked anyway.
Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours?
They're both dogs!

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Hope you have a great Thursday!!!

wondering....

I went to check on Mema and she was laying there peacefully and wasn't even getting upset when they touched her. Which led me to believe that she was either doing really really good or really really bad. After my mother-in-law spoke with the doctor we found out some information. She is towards the end and her body is shutting down. Although I do feel sadness about this I am also relieved for her. I know that she had been wondering why she was still here and was tying to figure out what she was supposed to be doing. We have a week, give or take.

Matt and I were sitting there talking to her and she told us both that she loved us and missed us multiple times. I told her that I shot my first deer and her face lit up and she had a huge grin and asked me "Are you kidding". I told her that I wasn't and a little about my deer and she said "That's good". I am going to miss her when she is gone. I am also going to miss the fact that she loved me no matter what. But end the end we will know that this wonderful woman helped us through so many tribulations and in the end we were able to stand there beside her and help her through til the end....

Jeff Bates was amazing!!!! & Deer Fajitas

First off, the concert Friday was amazing!!! I got to touch Jeff Bates twice!!! The show was wonderful and the crow was quite big. He sang a couple new songs and I can't wait until I can buy them. I finally got a shirt and a friend took it into the meet & greet and got it signed for me. I had such an amazing time and Matt was a good sport about it. I even got him home early enough for him to get some decent sleep before going fishing early in the morning!

*************
After getting home we heard about a tragedy that happened in the community and talked about it for a while. The next morning I called Lisa and we talked for a while and then I got a phone call back from her. Matt's great grandma had fallen the night before and had been taken to the nursing home. No one had been notified though. I called his mother and then took off to go the 25 minute drive to get to the hospital. We found out that her son didn't fill out and return all the appropriate paperwork to the assisted living facility, so they had no contact numbers to call anyone on. This is the same son who is pushing everyone to get their stuff out so that they can sell the house. Needless to say, I was upset and Matt was as well. She has two black eyes, a big gash on her head, the left side is swollen and the blood is draining from the fall so it is going all down her face and neck. They are releasing her from the hospital and sending her back to the assisted living facility with some additional help. I know that the thought is hard but it is coming down to quantity vs. quality of life. I know where she is going and just hope for her that she doesn't have to suffer much longer. Some prayers sent up would be nice.
*************
Last night I made some fajitas and they were so good! The only thing missing was deer. We always make our fajitas with deer but I didn't have any thawed so I picked up some chicken on the way home. Two bell peppers, one large onion (or two medium onions) and the meat of your choice. Throw some oil, water and a season packet and let it marinade. If you don't have a season packet throw in some salt, pepper, season salt and garlic powder. It is suppose to marinade for 15 minutes but I was running late on time so I threw everything in a pan and then sprinkled the seasonings over and threw a little bit of water in there. Cook for about 15ish minutes covered. Then serve up hot!!! I found a block of white cheese dip with jalapenos and that is what got this whole thing started! I had cheese dip, guac, salsa to have with chips and then the fajitas. Wonderful dinner and I can't wait to have the leftovers for lunch!!!!

Happy Fourth & a lesson learned

First off Happy 4th of July! I hope it is safe and fun for everyone!

We went out to go fishing this morning before all the other people got out. One of the first places that we went there were Canadian geese all over. I started counting them and there were over 150 total. It amazed me watching them but one of the things that I saw was that in each smaller group there was a tame goose. The beautiful black and tan Canadians had adopted a white goose in the middle of them. It made me realize the beauty of nature. These creatures were color blind and have adopted this different goose into the group. In fact I saw one that was flying with the group and making up a spot in the "V". I know that this post is kinda random but I hope that you were able to see the beauty in this.....

Country life and why I love it!!!

We woke up this morning and I let the girls out and they barked, which is normal. I looked out when a truck honked and I saw calves in our yard, our hay pasture and in the road. We don't have calves but I am wanting a couple. I keep telling him if we would buy a couple little calves in the spring, bottle feed them and raise them during the summer, sell one and butcher the other. We could have some wonderful beef in the freezer!!! But back to the actual story! Our neighbors calves had gotten out and were wrecking havoc on our trees. Thankfully they left the new trees that we planted alone and we worked to keep them out of the garden. We have a tree line that divides our yard from the hay pasture and they we eating the leaves off of the trees in the tree line. I got to counting and we had about 35 calves everywhere on our 5 acres and out in the road. I walked out into the road and got all but 4 (I thought) out of the road and we pushed them into the hay field. I then went back out to get the other four and they ran down the road to our next door neighbors and as they were running into their driveway another calf poked its head around from their drive way. I fussed and ran and tried to get them back down towards our hay field and they didn't want to go. So I left them in there and went back to our hay field. In the mean time Matt went and got the truck and parked it in one of the gate openings and we got out to move the 30 that were in the hay field. In the meantime there were about 5 who decided that they wanted back into our yard. It tasted so much better ya know. So we got those 5 back into the hay field and ran them through the gate, back into the pasture where they were supposed to be. So now we had to get the five that were left. Matt started to shut the gate in between our pasture and their pasture. I told him not to and took off towards the 5 calves. they got fidgety again so Matt drove the truck around them and pushed them back towards our gate. I had ran around and was on the outside of the gate to push them through it. We danced and ran and finally got them into the hay pasture. I started pushing them through and as we get closer to the gate. It was shut..... He had gone ahead and shut it when my back was turned.... I threw my hands up and was saying all sorts of words in my head. He ran up to open up the gate as they ran back towards the open gate. I stood there and looked at Matt irritated. Luckily the calves just ran around the fence line and then towards the gate. I had one of them who left me get a foot away from him before he turned and ran. He was a brave "little" guy! We had a couple that were trying to see how far they could push us but I won! As we were running the last group of the calves Matt was yelling at me "And who is wanting to have cows?????" I was yelling back "Just two and a good fence to keep them in...." I was raised doing all this stuff and it is normal but Matt never really got to do any of it. So this is a learning experience for him but he is loving every minute of it.

We ran out about 6:15 to start getting them in and ran back inside at around 7:15. I got ready and was ready to leave in 15 minutes. I actually made it to work on time!! I am now tired and can feel the soreness settling in. I will work outside tonight and I KNOW that I will be sore! I am going to go get a chain for the gate and put a new one on it. That is how they got out. The gate was standing wide open. It looks like they had bedded down in our hay field. The gate is ours but we have left a 30 foot ease way for them to stack their hay and we fenced it in so the cows couldn't get it. I think that the cows got tired of looking at the hay just sitting there and worked on the gate until they pushed it open. So I will go and get a new chain so hopefully we won't have calves in the yard, hay pasture and road again. We have been finding hoof prints in the yard two different times, the last time being Monday and we had walked the fence line last night and found that a post had been removed. So tonight we will put a post up, a new chain on the gate and start cleaning up some other stuff. It will be a good night to do all this. It hasn't rained in about a week now... I still want a couple calves to bottle feed, one to sell and one to butcher. Matt thinks that I will get too attached and won't want to butcher one of them. The truth is that I probably won't, but I want to have good meat so bad, so whatever it takes!

April showers bring May flowers.... or showers again??????

May 10th was the one year anniversary of the tornado that hit Picher. Friday (May 8th) we had been watching the coverage on the news and we knew that there was another storm coming in. Matt goes in a little early on Fridays so I get a phone call from him saying that I needed to leave a little earlier than I had planned. The wind was blowing and had picked his truck up and "floated" him to the other lane. I started getting around and the electricity flashed. I didn't think much about it since it came back on and then a couple minutes later the wind picked up something severe!!! It sounded like hail was hitting the house but it was the little bitty pieces of branches that were being blown from the tree line. Later we were told that the wind was blowing between 85-110 MPH. I was getting around when the electricity went out and stayed out so I lit some of the lamps and got ready to leave. The girls weren't happy and were pacing around so I watched them and once they calmed down I put them in their kennels and went on to work. There was tons of water and the wind was still blowing but not as bad. The rain was coming down and the highway was very dangerous. I didn't see what had happened then since I was so focused on the road but there were 5 poles broken, all laying towards the east. We were without electricity from Friday morning until about 9 pm sunday but when we were home we gassed the generator up and plugged in the neccessities - fridge, freezer, TV, satellite, a few lights and a fan! I am just thankful that there wasn't more damage and that we were only out for a short amount of time! This weather in Oklahoma is crazy this time of year!

Lola is gone....

I will update more later on other stuff but wanted to let everyone know that Lola is gone. They let her outside for a few minutes and she ran into the road and someone hit her. They didn't even stop. So when the looked back outside she was laying in the road. I am taking it hard since she was half mine too. That is what we always have said about her. But I will give all the health and other info updates tomorrow....

Bows, ears, meds, and life in general

So first off, I was suffering with the ear pressure and the itching. Monday night I started taking Benedryl and Sudafed and it did something. My ears weren't hurting anymore, My whole face was now. I knew then that it was something with my sinuses. So I decided I would give it a couple of days to work its way up and if it hadn't towards the end of the week I was going to the doctor. I was feeling like my head was going to explode and my teeth were killing me. So Thursday I gave in and went to the Express Care that opened up this last week. The PA that I was talking about in the last post is there so it wasn't like I was going somewhere that no one knew me. I walked in at the Express Care and left at 3:30. I was figuring that I knew what it was and I was right. I got the whole thing of "you should have came in sooner", "I know that you must have been hurting" and all that normal stuff. The next thing that came out of her mouth was " you have a severe sinus infection so instead of 10 days of antibiotics I am putting you on 15 days worth. Instead of taking them twice a day you need to take them every 8 hours. You are going to take Flonase twice a day as well as Mucinex twice a day." I guess when I do it I do it good!!! So I am feeling better, still sleeping sitting up because of the drainage but my face doesn't feel like it is going to explode!!!

So in other good news Matt got the "boatport" done. This is an area to park the boat. That was its total purpose. Something that you park a car under is called..... a carport. So something that we park our boat under is.......a boatport! I am working on making him a sign to hang up, he just doesn't know it yet! I have the wood so I need some paint, hooks and some chain!

And to keep the good new coming, we got our bows last weekend!!!! Matt got a Hoyt AlphaMax 32 and I got a Diamond Razor Edge by Bowtek. We are both extremely happy and excited to get them. The only down side of this is that the dealer has been waiting on a shipment of arrows and hasn't got them yet. Matt will be shooting 400s and I will be shooting 500s. His will be wrapped with the American flag and has two red feathers and one white feather. Mine will be wrapped with pink flames and have two pink zebra print vanes and one white zebra print vane. I didn't realize that Ted Nugent and I have so much in common and like to accessorize the same!!!

Matt and Phil have their first tournament in a couple weeks so I will officially have Saturdays to myself and Sundays will be my day on the lake! Yeah!!! I am excited. Most people don't understand how I am so excited about having him gone on Saturdays but that is my time. I will get to stitch and finish some projects, get some reading done and also get some homework done. Also I am trying to get some large tests that I have to take for school done so I will be taking those. I have to pass one of these in order to be admitted into the teaching program and the other two have to be passed in order to graduate. So I figure that I can get started!

And lastly, I have lost about 10 pounds so far. It is coming off slowly and in good increments so I am happy right now with it!

I hope that this weekend is nice and we can shoot our arrows, as long as they come in!!! That would make this weekend PERFECT!!!!
